This 1957 Fender Precision is a great example of a gigging musicians bass. We have dated it from the end of the neck heel which is 1-57 and the original serial number is embossed into the back of the neck. The pickup looks to have either been rewound and shielded or swapped out along with the electronics. The pickup cavity has also been shielded. The original bridge has been replaced with what appears to be a early 60s 4-Saddle bridge though the covers appear to be originals as well as the tuning machines.
The neck plate serial number does not match the neck stamps but this could have been swapped as it appears to have been engraved with either a signature or a players name. This name is "James Paul Francis II"
We have pictures of the information used to date the bass available here
The guitar was bough by the current owner in 1978 and has been left in the way he bought it. He was told that it was owned by the Bass Player of Three Dog Night and there is a little 3DN scratched into one of the tuning machines though we can not find anything to corroborate this information.
