The AJ-220SCE features Epiphone's bell-like '’Advanced Jumbo'' body, which is similar in size to the popular Dreadnought profile, but with a larger lower bout and smaller, more rounded upper bout. This gives the Epiphone AJ a wonderfully balanced tone ideal for both stage and studio, with a powerful low end and crisp, clear highs. The solid Sitka spruce top adds brightness and definition to the overall sound, creating a beautifully balanced performance with sparkling highs and smooth lows. The spruce tonewood is perfectly complemented by the mellow warmth of the select mahogany back and sides, making the AJ-220SCE Acoustic ideal for virtually any situation.
Constructed from mahogany, the neck infuses the AJ Series Epiphone with beautiful warmth, resonance, and a clear top end. Using mahogany for both the body and neck enhances its natural resonance, allowing it to respond superbly to numerous techniques and playing styles with ease. The neck is topped with a Pau Ferro fingerboard that adds warmth and clarity to the overall tone, while its smooth surface provide a comfortably energetic playing experience.
The Epiphone AJ-220SCE is equipped with Shadow Electronics' innovative Performance Tuner preamp and NanoFlex pickup system. Powered by two lightweight 2032 lithium watch batteries, this state-of-the-art preamp features a built-in chromatic tuner, 2-band EQ, and feedback-killing phase switch for the ultimate tone shaping capabilities. The preamp also has a tuner/mute button, which is ideal not only for muting the output when using the tuner, but also for when plugging in or unplugging your guitar.
The active NanoFlex low impedance pickup rests beneath the AJ-220CE's compensated saddle, and simultaneously picks up both the vibrations of the strings and the movement of the soundboard. This results in unparalleled natural-sounding acoustic tones without the harshness of conventional piezoelectric pickups.
