The black Pearly Gates Set from Seymour Duncan are calibrated PAF-style humbucking pickups for neck and bridge based on the stock pickups in ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons' original 1959 Les Paul. This set packs a ton of focused midrange and raw Texas sizzle, designed to make any guitar sing.
Great for rhythm and lead, the neck pickup provides a unique tonal character, offering strong, tailored mids, along with the open and airy treble attack characteristic of the alnico 2 bar magnet, and a warm spongy low end. The bridge pickup offers slightly more output and gain compared to most '50s PAFs, giving it some extra drive, and the emphasized midrange helps to enhance the pickup's natural growl and sizzle, bringing any guitar to life.
Both the neck and bridge pickups in the Pearly Gates set utilize alnico 2 bar magnets with wax potting, as well as a nickel-silver bottom plates, 4-conductor lead wires for multiple wiring options, and are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. All Pearly Gates pickups are carefully hand-wound on Seymour's old Leesona winding machine from the early Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, MI, adding to the vintage mojo.
